  • 14 years min.
  • 2 to 5 participants
  • Up to 6 people for a privatization
  • This workshop is run on consecutive Saturdays.

Join Clunie for a two day ornamental wood carving workshop and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of wood carving.

On the first day you will start with the basics. Clunie will introduce you to the essential tools and teach you how to use them safely and effectively. You'll learn about the properties of wood, including how to understand grain direction. The day will culminate in a practical project focusing on chip carving, giving you a solid foundation to build on.

The second day will build on the skills you've already learned. Clunie will help you create a shallow relief or chip carving from one of the available designs. This piece can be taken home to display or refined in your own time.

By the end of the course you will have learned how to identify suitable wood species for future carving projects, how to use a chisel and mallet safely, how to secure your work, how to lay out your design on wood and how to create a design in relief. You will also be given a brief introduction to chisel sharpening.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn from Clunie in a supportive and inspiring environment! Note: No prior carving experience is necessary. Complete beginners will be guided through the basic techniques, while more advanced students will be given guidance on how to refine their skills further. Experienced woodcarvers wishing to be set a more complex project should get in contact after bookingParticipants under age 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult who will be responsible for their wellbeing.
