Your own side table or plant stool

The workshop in detail

  • 3h
  • 15 years min.
  • 3 to 6 participants
  • Up to 6 people for a privatization
  • In this innovative 3-hour workshop, hosted by Lyviënne, participants will explore the unique craft of transforming a book into a stylish and functional stool. This workshop is not just about creating a piece of furniture; it's an exercise in upcycling and creative thinking, where the humble book is given a new lease of life.

The focus of the workshop is to construct a stool from a book, a large atlas for instance. This stool, while not suitable for seating, serves as a charming side table or a quaint plant stand, adding a touch of creativity and personality to any room. The process of making the stool involves several steps that blend traditional bookbinding techniques with furniture making.

You will learn how to add decorative elements to your stool and how to reinforce the stool to make it extra strong and durable. As a finishing touch you will create the top of the stool, culminating in a functional and aesthetically pleasing piece. Lyviënne will provide all the tools, like knives and scissors, essential for the cutting and shaping processes.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own books, adhering to specific prerequisites such as the height of the pages determining the stool’s height, a minimum of 50 pages made of sturdy paper, and a robust cover that can't be folded. This workshop offers a great new life for books that might otherwise be thrown away or stored away forever. If needed, Lyviënne also has some spare books to use.

This workshop is ideal for those interested in upcycling, crafting, and adding a unique piece to their home décor. It offers a chance to learn new skills in paper folding, cutting, and gluing, all while creating something both beautiful and practical.

During the Christmas editions on December 7th or 15th, you'll turn an (old) book into your own Christmas decoration. From a pine tree to an elegant ornament—perfect for decorating your home or giving as a gift.
