The workshop in detail

  • 7h30
  • 5 to 10 participants
  • 15 years min.
  • Discovery the wonderful world of basketry with Virginie!

Upon your arrival at the workshop, you'll be warmly greeted by this passionate artisan. After a round of introductions, she'll begin with a theoretical introduction to the fundamentals of her craft. You'll learn everything there is to know about willow, the various tools, and the techniques needed to work with this distinctive material!

Next, you'll gather around Virginie for the hands-on part of the workshop. What's on the agenda for this session? Crafting a charming small asymmetrical basket, complete with a crossed base and a wooden handle. The artisan will guide you through the motions and steps required for this creation.

The colour of your basket will depend on the willows available on the day of the workshop. If you wish to add an even more personal touch, you're welcome to bring your own wood branch, provided it's about 30cm in length and 1.5cm in diameter.

At the end of the day, you'll leave with your self-made basket, a piece you'll be proud to use daily or display in your home as a memento of this delightful experience!

NB: A one-hour lunch break is included in this workshop; remember to bring your meal to enjoy with Virginie and the other participants!

    Meet Virginie

    Basket Maker

After twelve years of designing and assisting an architect specialising in organic architecture and the restoration of timber-framed houses, Virginie decided to spread her wings.

Her goal? To place creativity at the heart of her professional life, while combining her need to build, her passion for gardens, and her commitment to ecology.

In 2021, Virginie launched her new project, Végétalise. She imagines and creates living willow installations for private individuals and public spaces: cabins, alcoves, plessis, woven hedges, tontines, privacy screens and more.

Based in Liège, she is particularly attuned to the greening of urban centres and seeks a balance between concrete and nature.

Enthusiastic and passionate, Virginie enjoys sharing her expertise through introductory workshops for all types of audiences.
