The workshop in detail

  • 2h
  • 15 years min.
  • 6 to 20 participants
  • Your adventure begins with a warm welcome from the artisans as they take you on a guided tour of the vineyard.

You'll stroll through the vines and learn about the history and vision behind Oud Conynsbergh.Ā

Next you'll visit the cellar where the magic of winemaking takes place. The artisans will explain the meticulous process of creating their wines, from growing the grapes to fermentation. They take great pride in their sustainable practices, opting for low yields and avoiding herbicides and pesticides to ensure the health of their vines and the quality of their wines.Ā

The highlight of the workshop is the wine tasting. You'll be introduced to the art of wine tasting, focusing on the three key senses: sight, smell and taste. The artisans will guide you through a sensory exploration, teaching you how to observe the colour and clarity of the wine, identify its aromatic profile and savour its flavours on the palate.

During the tasting, you'll taste five different wines, each expressing a different character of the vineyard. You'll have the opportunity to evaluate the wines using a tasting sheet that allows you to record your impressions and preferences. This interactive process will not only refine your tasting skills but also deepen your understanding of what makes each wine unique.

The workshop will conclude with a group discussion to share and compare your evaluations.

Whether you are a wine enthusiast or a curious novice, the artisans at Oud Conynsbergh are passionate about their craft and eager to share their knowledge and love of winemaking with you!

    Wecandoo - Meet Oud Conynsbergh

    Meet Oud Conynsbergh

    Winegrower

In the shadow of the Boechout windmill near Antwerp lies the Belgian vineyard Oud Conynsbergh. Its Auxerrois, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Muscat and sparkling wines showcase a unique terroir and rich heritage.

In 2011, a group of eight friends decided to embark on an exciting journey by planting a vineyard in Boechout. The first vines were planted in April 2014. Although their project was initially met with scepticism, Wijndomein Oud Conynsbergh has proven that excellent wines can indeed be produced in the province of Antwerp.

The creation of Wijndomein Oud Conynsbergh allowed the friends to realise their dream. What began as an ambitious idea quickly took shape as they conducted thorough research and overcame initial doubts. They committed themselves to learning the art of winemaking and created a brand new vineyard.

They threw themselves into the cultivation of the vineyard with the aim of reviving the winemaking tradition of Boechout and Vremde, where vines were already cultivated in the 16th century.

A passionate team of dozens of volunteers join them in this endeavour, helping with vineyard maintenance, harvesting and organising events. Today they are proud to run the only certified organic vineyard of this size in Flanders.
