Introduction to screen printing

Your hand printed creation

The workshop in detail

  • 2h30
  • 15 years min.
  • 2 to 4 participants
  • Up to 6 people for a privatization
  • Join textile designer Helen Rawlinson for a creative workshop to explore the exciting world of screen printing on fabric!

The workshop begins with a warm welcome to Helen and her studio followed by a detailed demonstration of screen printing on fabric, explaining the basics of the process and the tools you'll be using.

Then it's time to get creative! You'll start with a test print, cutting out stencils and trying out different ideas. Once you're comfortable, you'll design and create your own stencil for your final print, either on a tote bag, tea towel or another light cotton or linen item you've brought with you. If time allows, you can experiment with layering two colours to add depth and dimension to your design.

Finally, dry and fix your print before you're ready to take your unique creation home!

    Workshop location

The studio is easily accessible by public transport.

    Practical information

Printing can be a messy business with the occasional splatter of ink. I do have aprons but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer and please wear clothing you don't mind getting ink on to, just in case (avoid white trainers/new shoes!)

You are welcome to bring any visuals with you to inspire your paper cutting. Consider Matisse style cut outs, black and white vector art, simple silhouettes and basic shapes. Avoid fine lines and half tone imagery. Don't worry if you come without anything as I have plenty to inspire you at the studio but do get in touch if there is a particular theme you'd like to explore and I'll be happy to help.

    Meet Helen

    Textile Designer

Helen is a London based textile designer known for her hand screen printed homeware and accessories. Her distinctive designs have graced independent shops and galleries across the UK. Today she shares her passion for colour and pattern through her bespoke online shop, studio and a collection of digital patterns.

Helen draws inspiration from the world around her - whether it's the plants and flowers in her small London garden, or fleeting moments from everyday life and travel. Her process combines experimental printing techniques with a keen eye for layering colour and texture, transforming initial sketches into the repeating patterns that define her signature lampshades, cushions and collages.

Since 2019, Helen has been sharing her expertise through creative workshops. Whether you're exploring screenprinting for the first time or looking to add a splash of colour to your craft repertoire, Helen's workshops offer a fun, hands-on experience with an experienced designer.
