Step into Elyse's workshop where she shares her expertise in wood working, and her passion for furniture restoration, marquetry and conservation.
Begin your journey with Elyse by immersing yourself in the Boulle marquetry technique. Here you'll learn about the tools and materials essential to marquetry, from veneers to cutting tools. Elyse will demonstrate how to use each tool safely and effectively.
Next, you'll choose a design from a range of ready-made patterns and select the veneers needed to bring it to life. With Elyse's guidance, you'll assemble the veneer pack and use the marquetry donkey and piercing saw to cut the design.
Once the pieces are cut, you'll carefully glue them together to ensure a precise fit. During this process, Elyse will give you a brief history of marquetry, accompanied by refreshments.
Finally, you'll learn sanding and finishing techniques to complete your project. Elyse will demonstrate how to add the finishing touches to give your piece a polished look.
By the end of this welcoming and supportive workshop, you'll not only have gained practical skills in boulle marquetry, but also take home your own coasters!
