Step into the world of artistic expression guided by Florence, where the captivating craft of wheel throwing comes alive.
Gain insight into the intricate process of wheel throwing as Florence takes you on a journey through its various steps. From preparing the clay to the mesmerising dance between hands and wheel, you'll get a comprehensive overview of this centuries-old art form.
Florence will start with an overview of the ceramics process, tools and techniques. Next, watch in awe as Florence demonstrates her expertise through a live pottery-making session. Witness the transformation of raw clay into elegant forms as her hands work their magic on the potter's wheel.
Now comes the exciting part: your hands-on exploration. This is an intimate workshop so you will be fully guided by Florence's experienced hand and you'll have the opportunity to shape your own pottery masterpiece. Florence's focused support ensures that your creativity knows no bounds, enabling you to craft a pot that reflects your personal touch.
As you immerse yourself in the craft, select up to two of your favourite creations to be carefully fired.
The journey continues with a delightful choice – the glaze selection. With a spectrum of colours at your disposal, you'll be able to infuse your pottery with your unique style and taste.
The workshop ends with a brief clean down of the studio and after the session Florence meticulously applies the chosen glaze to your pots, and after undergoing the transformative fire, they'll emerge as fully formed works of art. In around four weeks, your masterpieces will be ready for you to collect, or they can be sent out to you.

Practical information
To participate in this workshop, please plan to wear comfortable clothing suitable for the practice and cleaning at the end of the session. It is also advisable to have short nails and tied-up hair. If possible, consider bringing your own apron.

Florence's artistic journey began with a Fine Art degree from Wimbledon College of Art, followed by an MA from the renowned Slade School of Fine Art. It was here that ceramics first captured her imagination, intertwining with her sculptural practice. The pandemic served as a catalyst for change, propelling Florence to immerse herself in ceramics, culminating in a flourishing career shift.
Starting as a sculpture and installation artist, Florence crafted monumental, site-specific installations using various materials. She also honed her skills in exhibition management at art galleries. As her passion for ceramics deepened, Florence's sculptor background now influences her vibrant, sculptural ceramic designs, breathing life into everyday objects.
Florence's ceramics champion conscious living, individuality and originality, urging us to reject mass-produced items in favour of supporting local artisans. Through her work, she encourages us to embrace slow shopping, invest in handmade pieces, and celebrate the beauty of unique creations.
