The workshop in detail

  • 2h
  • 4 to 6 participants
  • 15 years min.
  • Join Violaine in her studio for a hands-on pottery experience.

Discover the step-by-step process of creating ceramics from scratch. Begin by learning how to prepare the clay by wedging, then shape it using basic pinching techniques.

Under Violaine's guidance you will explore different methods of surface decoration using tools and coloured slip. You'll also learn how to add handles to your pieces if you wish.

Once you've created your pieces, choose which one you'd like to have fired. You can choose to have a second pot fired for £5.

After firing, Violaine will apply a transparent or white glaze to your creations before firing them again at high temperatures.

In 4-6 weeks your ceramic creations will be ready to collect from the studio!

Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, Violaine's workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn and create your own ceramics!

Please bring an apron, clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and trim your nails as long nails can get in the way (also bring a hair tie for throwing sessions).

Due to limited storage space at the studio, Violaine can only keep your pots for an extra 4 weeks from the day your pot is available for collection. Uncollected pots will be donated to charity.

    Wecandoo - Meet Violaine

    Meet Violaine

    Ceramicist

Meet Violaine, a skilled artisan who switched from life as a Design and Art Director to ceramics after discovering the craft in 2018.

Looking for a break from fast-paced city life and deadlines, she found solace in working with clay. After joining a community studio and attending classes, she began selling her minimalist tableware, influenced by her French roots, and eventually she set up her own studio in Hackney.

Violaine continues to explore new techniques and styles, recently focusing on more surface decorations. With over three years teaching experience at a London pottery school, she now invites enthusiasts to visit her in her studio where you will be immersed in an artists space, surrounded by other makers. Whether you're a beginner or intermediate, Violaine offers a supportive environment to learn and create your own ceramics.

Experience the joy of working with clay under Violaine's guidance, and express your creativity!
