  • Join Chelsea for a comprehensive four-hour session dedicated to the art of marquetry. To get started, Chelsea provides an engaging introduction to her brand and veneer craftsmanship.

Throughout the workshop, participants delve into the process behind marquetry, gaining an understanding of the various materials involved and their application in creating designs. Emphasis is placed on mastering cutting techniques, a critical skill in shaping marquetry veneers.

The hands-on experience is further enhanced as attendees practice these techniques, honing their ability to manipulate the veneers with precision. This skill is then applied in the design and creation of personalised coasters, allowing for a practical translation of concept into form.

As the session advances, participants learn the essential steps of glueing and pressing veneers, ensuring the durability and aesthetic finish of their work. Following the workshop, Chelsea undertakes the final stages of pressing and varnishing the coasters. These finished pieces are then posted to the attendees, serving not only as a functional pair of coasters but also as a testament to their newly acquired marquetry skills.

    Marqueter

Chelsea is an artisan whose practice emerges from an intrinsic appreciation for the shape, colour, and texture of quotidian objects. She navigates the delicate balance between functional and non-functional art, infusing her work with a sense of curiosity and exploration. The integration of her fondness for drawing with the tangible process of handcrafting defines her most recent body of work.

Her academic path began with a BA Honours in Fine Art from the Edinburgh College of Art and continued at the London Metropolitan University, where she earned an FDA in Furniture and Product Design. This educational journey has equipped her with a thorough understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of her field.

Chelsea's studio is an industrious space alive with creative endeavours. Equipment for creation is a constant, as the studio hums with the enterprise of translating imaginative concepts into physical artefacts. It is within this lively workshop that Chelsea's ideas take form, brought to life through a process that embraces both the precision of design and the authenticity of handcrafting.
