Begin with an enlightening introduction to the Vela brand and the warm welcome of Elena, your experienced host. You will learn the history of basketry and get creative as you learn techniques to create your own rattan basket.
Next, you'll receive a handmade sketchbook to develop your ideas. Then, roll up your sleeves and dive into the essentials of basket weaving, mastering the foundation of this timeless art form.
As you complete the base, your creativity takes center stage as you decide on the design of your unique basket sides and, if time allows, you can add a personal touch with leather or rope handles, elevating your creation even further.
As the workshop concludes, you'll proudly take home your one-of-a-kind basket—a tangible symbol of your newfound skills and creativity.
The workshop does not include a lunch break.

Designer
With a background in design and working in different agencies, Elena now thrives in a setting where her hands craft the narrative.
Her creative sanctuary now lies within the cosy, minimalist confines of her studio, where surplus materials are given a second wind.
Leather, rattan and textiles are her canvas, through which she crafts unique designs.
Her love for crafting isn’t confined to her studio; it extends into the workshops she hosts. With a blend of knowledge, passion and a hands-on teaching approach, Elena not only inspires others to see the latent potential in surplus materials but also fosters a space for creative interaction and growth.

We had a great time at Elena's workshop! She made us feel very comfortable and had prepared some thoughtful items for us, such as a notebook to sketch out ideas and hand cream to help while weaving. She let us choose the designs we wanted and was a really great teacher throughout, letting us move at our own pace but also stepping in to fix up the mistakes we'd made! We really appreciated the care and attention she put into sourcing the materials for the workshop and we chatted about how she had gone to Spain to get good quality rattan. She was very patient and gave us plenty of time to finish our baskets - we never felt rushed and in the end we had a vase and a basket that we're really proud to display. We'd highly recommend Elena's workshop!
