Ceramic artist Raymond leads participants through an eight-hour journey, divided into four engaging sessions, to get acquainted with the art of ceramic tile creation and decoration.
The workshop starts with the preparation of greenware tiles, where attendees craft 4-6 tiles, including two spares, under Raymond's expert guidance. This foundational step sets the stage for the subsequent sessions.Ā
The second session introduces the intricate technique of underglaze transfer. Participants receive hands-on training to apply this skill to one of their crafted tiles, adding a unique touch to their creations. This process not only enhances their artistic flair but also deepens their understanding of ceramic artistry.
In the third session, Raymond shifts the focus to decorating a bisque piece. Attendees are encouraged to bring their preferred patterns and sketches. The session revolves around replicating these designs onto a tile, offering a personalised experience and the chance to realise their artistic visions.
The final session delves into the technique of wax resistance decoration on two bisque pieces. Here, participants have the freedom to either utilise existing patterns provided by the workshop or unleash their creativity by designing their own. This session not only consolidates the skills learned in previous sessions but also allows for a personal expression of style.
Throughout the workshops, Raymond ensures a professional and conducive environment, fostering learning and creativity.

Meet Raymond
Ceramic Artist
Raymond, a potter with a unique philosophical approach, draws his inspiration from Daoism, particularly the concept of "emptiness." This principle, central to his craft, influences his perspective on the functionality and purpose of his ceramic creations. He believes that just as the empty space within a ceramic vessel renders it useful, embracing emptiness in life can lead to clarity and a harmonious balance.
In his pottery, Raymond focuses on capturing and celebrating the simple yet profound elements of everyday life. His work is a testament to the beauty of the ordinary, a reminder that joy can be found in the most mundane aspects of daily existence.
Raymond's primary goal is to craft vessels that are not only functional but also imbue a sense of tranquility and mindfulness into daily routines.
By integrating this philosophy into his pottery, Raymond offers more than just ceramic pieces; he provides an experience, a chance to find balance and peace in the act of using his vessels. Each piece is a reflection of his belief in the importance of simplicity, functionality, and the profound impact of 'emptiness' in bringing balance to both art and life.
